An update from the pastors:
Hello fellow believers,
Many of you are aware of Governor Northam's update on the coronavirus and the directive that he has commissioned for Virginia. Needless to say, these actions continue to impact our community and worship. Worship services will continue to be postponed until health officials make allowance for group gatherings that accommodate our church attendance. Love Feast, Easter (including sunrise service), prayer groups, Bible studies, and all other activities are canceled at this time. The church office will be closing for the next 30 days.
Please call/text/email Pastor Allen (540-339-8140, firstname.lastname@example.org) or Pastor Adam (540-537-2296, email@example.com) for any pastoral concerns. We will be glad to listen to any concerns that may arise and pray with you as we continue to do life together.
Communion will be rescheduled for a later time. The Media & Tech committee is working to post messages online. You will be able to view the message through the church website (summerdean.org). This Thursday the opportunity to join a virtual Bible study will be available at 6 pm. Join the study as they look at the second session from the video series, "Watch Your Mouth" by Tony Evans. (Please see the login information that we posted yesterday.)
As we continue to wait for these circumstances to improve we encourage you to pray and stay in contact with one another (email, text, telephone). This is a great time to connect with family and friends. Or take things a step further and reach out to someone you don't know well in the congregation and offer to pray with them. After all, when God's people pray the power and authority of Jesus is unleashed!
While these times are uncertain we know the one thing that never changes. Let us continue to walk in faith as we know that God is still in control. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and your family.
Grace to you,
Pastor Allen & Pastor Adam
It is with great sadness and concern for our community that we announce all church gatherings will be suspended in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) until March 27th.
The executive committee, along with the pastors, are following the recommendations of the Virlina District to cease congregational gatherings when local schools cancel classes due to the threat or actual spread of the virus until such time that classes resume. Today, the governor mandated the closures of schools until March 27. Therefore, all gatherings of the congregation, including tomorrow’s Pie Day fundraiser, Sunday services and church school, Bible studies, youth and children’s events, choir and praise team practices, and committee and prayer meetings will be suspended until Friday, March 27.
During the suspension of our gatherings, if you have questions, concerns, or are in need of pastoral care, please contact Pastor Allen, Pastor Adam, the church office, or your deacon. Further updates will be shared as they are available.
A prayer for these days
God of the present moment,
God who in Jesus stills the storm
and soothes the frantic heart;
bring hope and courage to all
who wait or work in uncertainty.
Bring hope that you will make them the equal
of whatever lies ahead.
Bring them courage to endure what cannot be avoided,
for your will is health and wholeness;
you are God, and we need you.
This we pray in Christ our Lord. Amen.
(This prayer was shared in an e-mail from Michael Curry, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church.)
